DUD- The Face Off Format

Make no mistake! The DUD Face Off is not your regular everyday dance competition. At DUD, we have always been invested in finding that one skillful dancer that not only enthralls the audience and judges but the one who also takes the art form a step ahead with their creativity and on-the-spot innovation of rhythmic storytelling. The Face Off is a journey to discover unconventional talent and to give them the stage that is beyond the scope of a conforming format. Bring out the rebel in you.


The format may need to be updated based on the number of contesting participation received in each city.

  • Auditions
    • Anyone from ages 4+ can audition for The Face Off to any song or track and on any dance style they prefer.
    • Anyone can perform, Solos, Duos, Trios or Quads. Each performance will be seen as one Routine
    • This dance competition is not categorized by age groups, which means a 4-year-old may be placed against a 60 year old for the face off.
    • Judges will select a total number of Routines* (Solo or Team) who will move to Round 1.
    • *based on the number of contesting participation.*
  • Round 1 - 60 Second Challenge:
    • Selected Routines (Solo or Team) will now compete against each other.
    • Judges will decide the competition sets. Any group variation may be placed to compete with one another (ex.: solo against solo OR solo against a quad.)
    • Judges will make a final selection and choose a number of Routines* (Solo or Team) who move to Round 2..
    • *based on the number of contesting participation.*
  • Round 2
    • The selected Routines will be split into 4 groups each - Group A & Group B.
    • Judges will decide the competition sets. - Any group variation may be placed to compete with one another (ex.: solo against solo OR solo against a quad.)
    • Dance Style & group type can be any variation
    • Judges will select a total of two Routines (one from each group) who will move to Round 3.
  • Round 3 - Judges Choice Round (120 Seconds):
    • Judges select 2 Routines (one from A & one from B in Round 2)
    • Judges will decide the competition sets. - Any group variation may be placed to compete with one another (ex.: solo against solo OR solo against a quad.)
    • Judges will declare one final Routine (Solo or Team) as the The Face Off winner.
    • The Face Off winner gets the prestigious The Face Off Trophy, $500 in cash and direct entry to DUD Season 3 regional competition 2019/2020 batch.

Judges Criteria

PROFESSIONALLY JUDGED BY
TOP DANCE INFLUENCERS IN THE REGION

Rules :
  • If there is a tie between two contestants then the decision will be made based on choreography points.
  • If the choreography points are also the same, then the second decision will be based on technique points.
  • If the technique points are also the same, then the third decision will be based on the X-factor points.
  • If there is tie in all of the above mentioned criteria, then both the dancers will have to perform on the spot for a 60-second song selected by the judges.
  • If the tie breaker cannot decide the winner then a final decision will be made by the judges.

    Meeta Ramchandani

    Meeta Ramchandani is the President of VMR Inc. and Dreams Inc., who runs a chain of jewelry stores in Tennessee. She received her Bachelor’s degree in computer science from Pune, India. Besides being a successful businesswoman she also pursues her passion for dance.

    Meeta has been performing and choreographing for many significant cultural events for the last 15 years and passed down her passion for Dance to her children too. She is an active president of JSMT and, as well as in the cultural committee has given her the qualifications that are needed to successfully plan and host a lot of events for the community. She thrives off seeing her thoughts come to fruition. Meeta is actively involved in many local communities and is always ready to take on a new passion project.

    Bhavna Singh is a creator, writer and director. She is currently working on to complete her undergrad degree in Communication at UNC Wilmington and a Film program at Cape Fear Community College. From writing and directing films, to wedding planning, and to brand management, Bhavna passionately works to deliver complete visual solutions.

    Raised and brought up in Raleigh, North Carolina, she has always been fond of music, dance, and film before she could walk and talk. She writes and talks about Bollywood. In 2015, Bhavna joined CXC Productions for their award-winning short film, Now and Then - as the PR & Marketing director. She later moved up to become the Chief Marketing Officer at CXC Productions. Her own short film, Ehsaas, which she has written and produced is ready to be released this year.

    Pooja Uberoi is the Producer for NYC Dance week, Founder of Funkar - a NYC10 initiative and owns a dance company in New York named IkIGAI - USA. She has more than 13 Years of experience as a dancer and teacher in Jazz schools, the Bollywood industry in Mumbai, India and New York City. She was a Board member and Head of a National Dance school in India Before moving to NYC. Pooja has performed her choreographies and taught at the prestigious CBS this morning, Dance USA Dance and in schools in India, New York City, California, Canada and Puerto Rico, Israel and Mexico. She is the Brand Ambassador for Dance USA Dance, NYC and Hotstar, USA. She is also a consultant for a music school and runs an international artist management company called Artists East West.

      Philippe (ILL_PHIL) Gonzales started his own crew in 2009, Phil formed the most dynamic dance crew -- “FootSoulgerz Krew” -- to hit the Dallas scene. Hyping and charming the crowd, Phil constantly displays his passion for dance during his energetic performances on stage. Phil also has as a bigger goal than dance, and that’s sharing the word and inspiring people through his talent. He has a list of teaching and performing experience in Texas and all over USA.       Gargi She holds a Bachelors degree in Bharatanatyam, and has immense knowledge of classical, semi-classical and Indian folk dances and Bollywood freestyle dance. She was selected for the dance performances in 2002 Common Wealth Games held in Manchester, UK. She is a leading Arya Dance Academy Troupe member since past 2 years. Recently, she was awarded Best Dancer trophy for Texas Dance USA Dance Season-II and bagged Texas Indian Icon trophy for International Indian Icon (3iii) Season-II. Internationally, she made it to the top finalists with an all age open dance category for 3iii Season-II.

      She has been mentored by renowned Bollywood Art Director Sharmistha Roy and assisted her in in many films such as Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Mohabbatein, Fiza, and Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega. She is a lead Anchor for Toppick Magazine and Media in DFW metroplex. Currently, she also has a show, Toppick Trendz, airing on ARY Digital and TX21 (operated by CBS).

    SHILPA JADWANI

    Shilpa Jadwani is an Immigration Attorney by profession and a performer/choreographer by heart. Shilpa has been professionally dancing and teaching Bollywood for the last 15 years, working with several studios and choreographers. To Shilpa dance and music are like breathing! She has been the Lead Female Assistant for PDS since 2009 in Atlanta.

    For the past several years, Shilpa has choregraphed talents for contestants of the Miss and Teen Miss India-Georgia Pageants who have always placed in the top 3. Some of Shilpa’s students have gone on to become wildly famous actors, comedians, to own their own Studios, do World Tours, win countless famous competitions, and even organize national and collegiate level dancing competitions. Shilpa was also handpicked by Master Saroj Khan as a Star Performer in Dance USA Dance Season 1.

    Shilpa has worked on Bollywood movies, music videos, national tours, conferences, and much more!
